I’m sitting at my computer, fingers still. Waiting. Wondering what I should be writing.
Sometimes prompts help, prayer or Bible verses. But sometimes I’m just supposed to wait.
That is, until my fingers glide across the keyboard unhindered. Not thinking about what I’m typing, and just letting the words flow.
It’s giving Him the freedom to move through us—to guide our thoughts, our words, and even our work.
But if we’re honest, that’s not as easy as it sounds.
Human nature gets in the way. Pride creeps in. Control tightens its grip.
“I know better.”
“I’ll do it my way.”
“I hear you, Lord, but I’d rather do it my way.”
At times, we can resemble a defiant teenager, who knows everything, though there is Someone wiser to provide direction.
As authors, we have our plan, our end goal for our story. A message we want to communicate. We know where the story should go.
But what if God’s leading it elsewhere? The story shifts? His truth takes more space than we originally intended?
Should we push forward with our own plan and desires? Or surrender to the Holy Spirit?
Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.”
This isn’t just about writing. It’s about how we live.
So when your story or plans veer off course…
When the words don’t match the outline…
When God’s love and truth shape your work in unexpected ways…
Pause. Pray. Seek discernment. And choose to yield.
Because when we let the Holy Spirit lead—not just in our writing, but in our lives—we’re no longer striving to create something meaningful on our own.
We’re allowing God to do it through us.
Galatians 5:25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
